Son of God Movie: In Theaters Now!
Study Guide Materials
The Diocese of Washington, DC in conjunction with Msgr Brian Bransfield, Associate General Secretary of the USCCB, have put together a Reflection Booklet and Video Series guide based on “Son of God”. When used together, viewers are encouraged to contemplate the deeper meaning of select scenes and their associated scripture passages. This is an excellent way for students to see the movie as a group, or as a family, and then engage in meaningful spiritual conversation afterward. At the end of each section of the guide and video series, a series of questions are presented for discussion and reflection either as a group or as an individual.
The following catechetical video guides based on the film Son of God have been adapted from the Son of God Reflection and Discussion Guide written by Msgr. J. Brian Bransfield, S.T.D.
We encourage you to view the video clips, then reflect upon the following. Whether you spend some time in quiet reflection, as a family, or within a larger group, this is a wonderful way to more fully experience the movie! Share your thoughts with us, so we can learn and grow with each other!
Clip 1) THE CREATION OF THE WORLD “In the beginning...” (Gn 1:1; Jn 1:1).
· A) Many people begin their day in a hurried rush. This is understandable as we have many responsibilities to take care of. As Christians, how do we begin our day? As busy as we are, isn’t it important that we find a way to recall that each day is God’s creation and that we are called to honor His gift? What prevents us from remembering God at the beginning of our day? What can help us to remember God at the beginning of our day?
· B) As Christians, how do we begin our week? Do we honor God through keeping the Lord’s Day holy? How can we plan to make sure that we worship God on Sunday through attending and participating in the life of the Church?
· C) When was the last time you or I read the Bible? Does the Bible, the inspired Word of God, have an honored place in our home? Is it possible for my family to sit down together every day to read even a short passage of the Bible together? Each day God recreates and reforms me through the light of His grace. How is God’s light coming alive in me and how do I share that light with others?
